Free nutrition table calculator

Enter the recipe ingredients with their grams: the calculator works out the nutrition values per 100 g and rounds them as they must be printed on the label. No sign-up needed.

Recipe

Search for an ingredient and add it: it appears here with 100 g, which you can change.

Percentage of weight lost in cooking, almost all water. Leave empty if the product is not cooked.

Nutrition table

The table appears here as soon as you add an ingredient.

To download it, sign up and start the free trial: from the same recipe you also get the ingredient list, highlighted allergens and QUID.

How the nutrition table is calculated

Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 allows the values of the nutrition declaration to be calculated from the known average values of the ingredients (Article 31(4)), without laboratory analysis. This is the method this calculator uses.

For each ingredient, the values per 100 g from the database are multiplied by the grams in the recipe and added up. Cooking loss removes water: the same nutrients are spread over a lower weight, so the values per 100 g of finished product go up.

Energy is calculated with the conversion factors of Annex XIV (for example 37 kJ per gram of fat, 17 kJ per gram of carbohydrate and of protein) and salt from sodium, multiplied by 2.5. Values are rounded following the European Commission guidance, as they must be printed on the label.

Ingredient values come from the CREA food composition tables and from USDA FoodData Central. If you have the supplier's specification sheet, its values describe your ingredient better: in Etichettalo you can use them instead of the database values.

Frequently asked questions

Is the calculator really free?

Yes: you search for the ingredients and see the table without signing up. To download the table and create the full label you need an account, which starts with the free trial.

Is the calculated table valid for the label?

Calculating from the average values of the ingredients is allowed by Article 31 of Regulation (EU) 1169/2011. The values remain the responsibility of whoever places the product on the market: use the suppliers' specification sheets when you have them and have the product analysed when the recipe calls for it.

How are the nutrition values of a recipe calculated?

The nutrients of each ingredient are added up in proportion to the grams, the water lost in cooking is removed and the values are brought to 100 g of finished product. Energy is then derived with the legal factors and everything is rounded following the EU rules.

What is cooking loss?

It is the weight the recipe loses in cooking, almost all water. If 1000 g of dough become 900 g of product, the cooking loss is 10%.

Which values are mandatory in the table?

Energy, fat, saturates, carbohydrate, sugars, protein and salt, per 100 g or 100 ml (Article 30 of Regulation (EU) 1169/2011). Fibre and other nutrients can be added.

How do I get the table as PNG or PDF?

Sign up for Etichettalo, create the product with the same recipe and download the label as PNG or PDF, with ingredient list, allergens and QUID.
